K-5 Math Endorsement Program with Griffin RESA

Griffin RESA is offering a K-5 Math Endorsement Program cohort conveniently meeting at Holy Spirit Prep's Sandy Springs campus. The program meets Georgia's PSC standards and is designed to advance Math and STEM efforts in our schools. Through the hybrid format of face-to-face meetings and an online platform, participants will deepen their content and pedagogical knowledge to improve student achievement in Math. 5th Annual Summer Institute Keynote Speaker: Dr. Julie Washington Professor and Program Director in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Georgia State University Tools of engagement: Strategies to reconnect the “unmotivated” learner Registration is open for the 5th annual summer institute at The Howard School: Tools of engagement: Strategies to reconnect the “unmotivated” learner. We are thrilled to have Dr. Julie Washington, Professor and Program Director in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Georgia State University, as our keynote speaker. After the keynote, the workshop will offer multiple breakout sessions clustered by elementary, middle, and high school topics. Participants are encouraged to bring lesson plans with them that were not as engaging as hoped. The institute will culminate with an opportunity for participants to work together and with our Howard School faculty/staff to incorporate strategies from the workshop to rejuvenate these lessons with a different approach. Lunch is included in the registration fee of $225.

Teaching for Civic Responsibility and Social Justice

How can teachers activate their intellectual empathy to build active, compassionate, responsible, global citizens without being political? Learn how to layer learning to teach differently, not teach more. In this course, we will support teachers acquiring the skills and dispositions to facilitate classroom learning where students become aware of the world, engage in current events and issues, and are involved in their communities. Foundational skills of reading, writing, and questioning work alongside social-emotional skills of empathy building, open-mindedness, and reflection to develop critical consumers of knowledge. To teach for civic responsibility and social justice is to: o create safe emotional spaces for sharing perspectives and critical listening o provide opportunities for student voice and discourse o utilize rich content to engage students o promote research and critical thinking o examine your own bias and ability to remain an impartial facilitator.

Growing Social Intelligence

Fuse is an experience where we set the conditions for participants to do both of these in concerted collaboration with MVIFI, community partners, and YOU -- the emerging designer -- in a few intense but seductively fun days of people-centered problem solving. Lifting the Level of Student Writing

NOLS - Independent School Leadership Expedition

This 5-day expedition is designed for Independent School Leaders to collaborate with peers in a challenging and adventurous learning model. On this expedition you will encounter challenges that mirror those in your secondary school leadership teams -- communicating with your team effectively, collaborating to problem solve, impacting positive influence, and thinking strategically. Without the distractions of modern conveniences, you and your peers will share perspectives, leadership best practices, and teamwork tactics as you explore the vast wilderness of the Wind River rage. Critical Friends Institute Training

Critical Friends Institute training offers tools and structures for supporting a particular kind of transformational learning community that brings educators together to: • focus on student learning
 • engage in reflective practice and collaboration • consider issues of educational equity Critical Friends Training rests on the belief that, together, we are smarter than any one of us is alone. For this reason, it often contributes to a more collaborative school culture, a decrease in teachers’ sense of isolation, and an increase in their job satisfaction and retention in the teaching field. Critical Friends learning community members form and are guided by shared norms and values--ground rules for dialogue, participation, and confidentiality-- that support open discussion and honest feedback. Educators engaged in reflective practice talk about what they do and why they do it. Their instructional decisions are driven by data, observation, and dialogue. Protocols feature agreed-upon guidelines for specific conversations about teaching and learning. They can be used for looking at student and educator work, giving feedback, or discussing professional articles. Protocols build collegial skills and habits, ensure equity in participation, and create time for reflection and listening. Spaces are still available for the July session. CSLL: Center for Service Learning Leadership

During five days of teaching, learning, collaborating, site visits and planning, educators will be prepared to return to their campus with a concrete plan and strategy to implement Service Learning both in their classroom and throughout the school. Each day will consist of some or all of the following components: Essential questions for Service Learning Readings and reflections tied to essential questions Group and partner discussions Curriculum planning, critique and presentation Guest speakers from our service partners Visits to service sites Who Should Attend: Independent school teachers looking to create, implement or perfect service learning projects and curricula. Independent school service learning administrators, program directors and practicing faculty from across Florida, the southeast and the world. Administrators (Division heads, Heads of Schools, etc...) are also welcome and will have a slightly modified curriculum. Enrollment is limited to the first 15 participants and is on a first come, first serve basis. St. Petersburg and the surrounding area contain a myriad of cultural and recreational activities for art and nature lovers, as well as an outstanding culinary scene. Participants will be encouraged to enjoy all that St. Pete and Tampa Bay have to offer.
