Since its founding in 1981, Mill Springs Academy has been supporting student learning through small classes and an individualized curriculum. We help students capitalize on their strengths and learn compensatory strategies to help overcome their challenges. Our student population consists of individuals in grades 1-12 that have average to above average intellectual ability, but are not reaching their potential in a traditional classroom setting. We are SAIS/SACS accredited and college preparatory, with a 1-1 laptop program that begins in the 4th grade.
We offer many competitive sports and a broad selection of fine arts to foster interests or hidden talents. The philosophy of the school is best stated in a quote from our founder, Tweetie L. Moore, “I’ve always believed that if a student can’t learn the way we teach, we should teach the way a student can learn.”
Our beautiful 85-acre campus sits in the middle of rolling hills and pasture land of north Atlanta. Nestled among neighboring horse farms, Mill Springs Academy has many wonderful amenities. The 2016-2017 school year will find our lower and middle schools in a wonderful new building, allowing the last group of students to move into a permanent facility. This capital campaign also provided for a sport court play area and an outdoor amphitheater. The move will enable our counseling and technology departments, as well as our championship wrestling program to spread out. Besides our gym, the Mustang Sports Complex is home to a 400m track, 3.2-mile cross country trail, soccer field, baseball field, four tennis courts, and lacrosse fields. It is also where we play host to many regional meets.
The most unique aspect of our school is our social curriculum which helps guide our students to become responsible, positive, and productive citizens of their communities. Both students and faculty share in the decision-making processes as they build a culture where they work toward goals, and learn to trust and care for each other. This system helps our students discover their strengths and challenges, supports academic achievement, and promotes independence, personal responsibility, and community involvement.
