Sumner Academy, founded in 1973 in Gallatin, TN, serves families with students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through eight. Our mission is to discover and cultivate each child’s unique abilities.
The Lower School is divided into three Learning Communities. Learning Community I includes Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten. Learning Community II encompasses first grade and second grade. Learning Community III houses third and fourth Grades. In addition to the core curriculum that includes Reading, English, Math, Social Studies, and Science, all students attend Related Arts Classes in Art, Music, Spanish, Computer, and Library. Related Arts Class Teachers all have their own classrooms as well as the Media Center which hosts the computer lab and the Library. All lower school students participate in Physical Education classes in the Jim and Isa Carroll Field House every day.
The Middle School incorporates grades five through eight. Classes are college preparatory level in standard classes, and there are honors level opportunities at each grade level. Core classes consist of English, math, literature, social studies, and science, with Spanish added as a core class in seventh and eighth grades. Related arts classes rotate on a nine-week basis and consist of music, computer, physical education, Spanish, and art for fifth and sixth grades and music, computer, physical education, health, and art for seventh and eighth grades. Assemblies, an adventure education program, and clubs, along with athletics, provide additional learning experiences.
The Sumner Academy Hawks Athletics Program is committed to excellence in athletics while supporting the educational mission of Sumner Academy. The program strives to meet student-athletes at their individual skill level and educational needs and provide a challenging environment for skill development in both team and individual sports.
Community service at Sumner Academy is a very important part of our mission. Students at all levels are involved in making their community a better place.
