Gaston Day School is a nonsectarian, college-preparatory school for grades preschool through 12 with approximately 480 students located on 60 acres about 20 minutes from Charlotte, in Gastonia, NC. Founded in 1967, Gaston Day School is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year; in fact, it was the first independent school in Gaston County.

Our programs regularly win regional and national awards and recognition. Gaston Day School recent graduates included a National Merit Scholar, two National AP Scholars, eight AP Scholars with Honor, and 13 AP Scholars with Distinction. Eighty-four percent of total AP students scored a three or above on the AP exams. The North Carolina Scholastic Media Association has named Blutopia, the School’s art and literary magazine, the best high school literary magazine in the state nine out of the last ten years. Gaston Day School is the only high school in America to compete and win in the Collegiate division of the iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine) Competition. Students routinely earn regional, state, and national distinction in English, history, math, science, and world languages. In 2017, our students received 105 scholastic writing awards and 33 Scholastic Art Awards. In world languages, 40 students earned silver, bronze, or honorable mention on the National Spanish Exam. Ten students earned accolades on the National French Exam, including a nationally ranked distinction.

Athletics and the arts continue to remain essential to the comprehensive education that the school provides. The school makes substantial investment in extracurriculars.

Gaston Day School continues to be an integral part of Gaston County’s growth as well, as alumni come back to the area and contribute to the community they know and love. Our students are the artists, inventors, storytellers and big-picture thinkers that are changing the future. Rich in history with a vision for tomorrow, we celebrate Gaston Day School’s continued growth and commitment to academic excellence.
