SAIS Collaborates with OESIS and NEASC

By Sarah Stewart

SAIS Vice President of Accreditation and Membership, Damian Kavanagh and Currey Ingram Head of School, Jeffrey Mitchell will participate in an upcoming symposium on 21st Century learning. Online Education Symposium for Independent Schools (OESIS) Los Angeles “Back to School” Classes of the Future will take place January 29-30,2015.  It will bring together representatives from more than 40 schools to discuss how technology is reshaping the way educators teach and students learn.

Kavanagh will participate in a think tank session on accreditation with representatives from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and International Association for K-12 Online Learning. The central focus of the session will be on how the accreditation world might leverage modern communication methods and technology to help schools.

“SAIS is excited at the opportunity to participate in this important event and join educators from across the country in reimagining how schools can benefit from modern technology,” Kavanagh said.

Meanwhile Mitchell will join Michael Nachbar, founding Director of the Global Online Academy, in a panel on professional development. The panel will discuss how schools can evaluate their professional development programs, as well as how they could use online or blended professional development programs.

“The OESIS Think Tank promises to be a very stimulating conference,” said Mitchell. “We’ll cover many hot topics that will foster a highly interactive format with an array of educational experts - heads, board chairs, researchers, association representatives - affiliated with independent schools.”
