In May of 2016, Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, FL, celebrated Commencement for its 84-member graduating class. Among the graduates were 12 athletes committed to college teams, seven students recognized by the National Merit Program, five Scholastic Art Award winners, three national championship sailors and a U.S. Presidential Scholar nominee. Collectively the Class of 2016 completed more than 14,000 service hours over their four years of high school. As the summer comes to a close, the Shorecrest Class of 2016 will matriculate to an impressive list of 51 colleges and universities in 18 states, Washington, DC, and Canada.

Not to be outdone by the seniors throughout the 2015-16 school year, numbers of students in Shorecrest’s 945-student preschool-12th grade program achieved similar accomplishments. Third and fourth graders in Shorecrest’s Lower School hosted 10 students from El Salvador, enjoying a cultural share with the Lower School’s first ever international delegation. Two Middle School students were selected to compete at the National History Day Contest. All 14 Middle School students who competed in the Pinellas County Science Fair won area awards, with two students advancing to win awards at the State level. Shorecrest students of all grade levels raked in numerous performing and visual arts awards throughout the school year, with many student artists exhibiting locally and nationally.

As Shorecrest students learn, grow, and achieve throughout the school year, the Shorecrest faculty do the same behind the scenes. A team of science and technology teachers won a grant for underwater robots to further enhance the school’s Coastal Awareness Program. Another team of collaborative teachers, this one art and technology, was awarded a grant to renovate a classroom space into an Active Learning Classroom, allowing for more cross-discipline collaboration and enhanced project-based learning. The grants and awards enable enhanced programming for the start of the 2016-17 academic year.

Shorecrest is a preschool through high school non-sectarian, co-ed, independent school, where empathy becomes action, inquiry sparks intellectual independence, and students find their futures. Proven results since 1923. To learn more visit
