Now in its 176th year of educating young women, Saint Mary’s School knows what girls need to learn, grow, and thrive. In today’s complex and global 21st century, Saint Mary’s School, an independent, Episcopal, college-preparatory, boarding and day school for girls in grades 9-12, guides girls in building the skills and providing the experiences they require to successfully navigate college and life.

That’s why Saint Mary’s School offers an extensive educational program focusing on the development of 10 key competencies, including critical thinking, collaboration, cross-cultural intelligence, and communication. Girls build these competencies through a comprehensive curriculum including AP, honors-level and elective courses, a rich arts program, 11 sports, real-world experiences, leadership and character development, a dedicated college counseling program, access to new and emerging technologies, and values informed by an Episcopal tradition that respects the worth and dignity of all.

Located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, NC, and within close proximity to the Research Triangle, Saint Mary’s students enjoy easy access to universities, museums, cultural organizations and businesses. Girls engage in experiential learning with experts in the fields of technology, science, education, entrepreneurship and more. The school’s Compass Explorations program, designed expressly to develop key competencies and engage girls in taking an active role in their learning, draws on the school’s location to provide a variety of hands-on and meaningful experiences both on and off campus. By learning from and working with teachers and area professionals, girls make important connections between what they are learning and its relevance through real-world applications.

As a boarding and day school, Saint Mary’s welcomes girls from across the state, the region, the country, and the world. Each girl is known, valued, and respected for her unique perspective, interests, and talents, and is encouraged to explore who she is and who she wants to become. Saint Mary’s dedicated and expert faculty guide girls both in and out of the classroom and create a safe environment where girls are inspired to take risks, use their voices, and grow as young women of intelligence, integrity, and purpose, ready to serve and shape their world.
