SAIS Board of Trustees Call for Nominations

The SAIS Board of Trustees is responsible for the supervision, control, and direction of the association. Per the bylaws, trustees must be heads of SAIS member schools. The nominations process takes place each spring.

The 2020 call for nominations is open through April 23.

Term of Office

The trustee term, which begins on January 1 of the year following election, is three years. A trustee may, during tenure or at the time of rotating off the board, be elected to a position as an officer. Officers are exempt from the regular board rotation.

Board Meetings

The board meets four times a year (in person in April and September, virtually in June and December). Board members are expected to participate in all meetings.

Nomination Process

  • Anyone may nominate a sitting head of school for board service.
  • Heads are also invited to self-nominate.
  • The governance committee reviews the nominees in early summer.
  • The committee recommends a slate to the full board at the  summer meeting.
  • The board-approved slate is presented for membership approval at the annual business meeting, which takes place at the SAIS Annual Conference each fall.
  • New trustees begin their terms on January 1 of the following year.
